    Girls and Kite surfing!

    Hey everyone

I'm wanting to start kite surfing ASAP and i'm busy getting all my kit etc. From my teeny about of knowledge I believe quicksilver cell for a wetsuit cos I feel the pain - and apparently this offers a lot of protection?? Any suggestions in general will help pls with regards to kite size (I think an 8) and boards :)

I'm also keen to how how many girls are into the sport in general, not many from what I see??

    Shot!

kite, boards ect would main depends on your weight and size. I've only got a 11m and I weigh about 90kg and in a strong SE it alot of power to keep down. Think your best bet would be to go speak to a local kite shop see what they say.

Hi Kimmi - best bet, as Chuky says, get down to your local kite shop and have a listen to what they have to say - at least if there is a problem you can go back and chage the kite etc -

There is a lot of ladies specific gear though for kitesurfing - that is designed for girls. If you are look at the Quik gear rather look at ROXY this is a better fit for Ladies. Maun Magic does a complete range of gear for kitesurfing and also does ladies specific harness's - www.mauimagic.com

If you are in South Africa then contact Janet from Gust Magazine - she runs a girls kiting weekend, which gives you a good grounding in kiting and all the advise you will need. www.gustmagazine.com

    Hey Kimmi

Welcome to the forums! As far as wetsuits are concerned, you simply can't go wrong with the Quiksilver / Roxy suits - they make awesome products for the ladies.

When it comes to kites and kiteboards, there are a few things you have to keep in mind.

Ladies are generally smaller than guys, and as a result they weigh less and have smaller feet etc. So when you go out and buy gear, keep this in mind.

Board sizes : Guys could easily get away with bigger boards, but to make your life easier I would start out on a board that is narrower and shorter (about 120-125cm in length).

If you are based in CT where the stronger winds prevail, you could easily kite all year long with a 7 or 8 square meter bow kite.

If you buy a board that is too big you will have difficulty controlling it, and if you buy a kite that is too big you will have difficulty riding comfortably as you will be picked up and be overpowered most of the time.

In terms of type of kite : bow kites are easier to start out on, C shape kites are more specialised and less forgiving in terms of depower.

    Hope this info helps.
