    RACE RANKINGS

    Attachment: Race Rankings.pdf
    Hi All

Attached to this post is the latest race rankings, which include one discard (your worst race so far gets eliminated from the overall points).

Please bear in mind we have based categories (twintip or directional) on what you wrote on your first registration form. Twintips are allowed to compete in the directional category, but not the other way round.

As this is our first racing series there are some little problems here and there - please bear with us. If there are any issues with the points, please let us know.

Thanks again for your participation and we hope that you are all enjoying the series and the social gathering afterwards!

    Re: Wednesday Night Racing

After 6 rounds of Wednesday night racing a clearer picture of what works seems to be appearing. We’ve had 4 races in CT, one in Langebaan and then there was one in Durban. Out of 6 races 4 were won by Wavequads 6’0-6’1 with bigger fins and two races were won by Race boards. Both Raceboard wins were in lighter wind (around 15 knots).

So if someone wants a cheap quick-fix way of going faster (and this applies to TT’s as well) – put in bigger fins. Just be mindful that it may not work in your board depending on your fins system and they way they are set up - maximum performance and speed will only be achieved in a quad set-up.

Berzack Luke and myself use 4wayfinssystem which allows us to toe the bigger fins out a little more than what is ideal for waveriding + we can add 4degress of extra splay which so far seems to be working with myself in 2nd, Berzack 3rd and Luke 4th – all on Geraghty boards. Greg in 1st has been using 3 or 4 different boards + he is Greg…………although he has been beaten when we’re really powered up….

The holy grail will be to make a raceboard that also works in the predominantly stronger winds we experience here in CT. I’m working with Dean Geraghty on a model which should be able to go in 30 knots+  and still keep you in the top 3 when we face lighter winds. Luke’s raceboard in 4th (as a Junior) has shown that our initial ideas aren’t that far off.

If anyone is interested in getting onto one of these boards please contact Dean on deang@geraghtyshapes.com - they will cost R4500 VAT incl. with fiberglass 4way quad race- fins (pads and straps are an optional extra)

We will initially only be making them in PU and polyester for faster production as getting the shape and fin set-up right is the key.

Turnaround time is 1-2 weeks and factories close 20th Dec and reopen 6th Jan - so orders have to be in before Dec 10th for delivery this year.

    Re: Wednesday Night Racing

I think this is great for the sport, it brings people together and creates a social aspect to the sport.

It has boosted an already growing racing discipline in South Africa.
Technically speaking this discipline is now the biggest in the country.

This had triggered a equipment frenzy as it does require different set ups to do well in the races.
Its very interesting to see what has been working and what has not.

As Pete P Suggested the trick is to find a board that does well upwind and downwind in both light and strong winds.
This mainly comes down to outline and length of your boards as well as your fin set up.
Fins seem to be the major key here. More area in general = better.

It also comes down to your kite. A bow kite is quite obviously going to hone its shape here. I personally feel you cannot beat the shape for this discipline.

If you look into the race results over the last month its is interesting to see how many races the Cabrinha bow kites have absolutely dominated in.

    Langebaan round the island race:

1st Grant (cabrinha corssbow) cabrinha race board
2nd Twiggy (cabrinha corssbow) cabrinha s quad
3rd Ant berzack (cabrinha corssbow) Geraghty wave board
4th Greg Thijsse (cabrinha corssbow) Cabrinha s quad

    Wednesday night race series:

    Race 1:

1st Pete P (air rush kite) Geraghty wave board
2nd Greg Thijsse (cabrinha crossbow) excelerator custom speed board
3rd Ant Berzack (cabrinha corssbow) Geraghty wave board
4th Luke McGilliwie (cabrinha Nomad) Geraghty Wave Board

    Race 2:

1st Greg Thijsse (cabrinha corssbow) cabrinha S quad
2nd  Pete P (air rush kite) Geraghty wave board
3rd Ant Berzack (cabrinha crossbow) Geraghty wave board
4th Olaf Marting (North kite) North Board

    Race 3:

1st Greg Thijsse (cabrinha crossbow) cabrinha coarse racing board
2nd Luke McGilliwie (cabrinha Nomad) Geraghty wave  board
3rd Anthony Berzack (cabrinha crossbow) Geraghty Wave board
4th Grant Ross (cabrinha crossbow) Cabrinha coarse racing board

    Race 4:

1st Greg Thijsse (cabrinha crossbow) cabrinha s quad
2nd Anthony Berzack (cabrinha crossbow) Geraghty wave board
3rd Peter P (kite) Geraghty wave board
4th Olaf Marting (north kite) north board
5th Grant Ross (cabrinha crossbow) cabrinha race board

Quite interesting to see the amount of results in the top 5 that are on Cabrinha kites and boards.

I personally think that a quad board with narrow parallel rails and big fins i the right all round set up for the boards.
As far as kites go, i think the results speak for themselves.

    SE this week!!! finally!!!
