    Quik ALL THE WAY...

Go to Sport and Surf MEGA Store in Diep River...

    Always have sales...
Mate of mine bought a Cell for R1100 due to it having a crease in the main chest plate "rubber area"...

I bought a Quik Syncro from same place for R1100, whereby other places were charging R1600.

    Re: Wetsuit for Winter?

Quiksilver also has a kitesurf wetsuit. It has short sleeves but you can add arm extensions (which come with it) for the really cold days. It is mostly rubber for more wind resistance and also has velcro stitched into the ankles to prevent water from filling up the legs. Very flexible too.

Give us a shout if you want to have a look.

    Re: Wetsuit for Winter?

You guys are talking about 4/3's - surely if we're talking about a warm suit you should be looking at a 5/4. My Ion Strike 5/4 often gets used even in summer. Would prefer to get some of the Ion Quantum suits but unfortunately you can't get them here - they were sold out all over Europe last year due to their popularity. General consensus was that they are the Rolls Royce of wetsuits at the moment.

interesting you should mention this. i stopped at a local (Table View) surf shop today to check ONeil prices and the 2 surfers/salesman assured me the 3/2 Psycho is warm enough for this part of the coast. They recon the 4/3 is too warm.

What are the kiters using (talking about the top-end Quick/ONeil suits) 4/3 or 3/2?

    Cheers

I checked my suit and it is a 5/4/3 combination, 5 across the chest and back, 4 arms and legs, and 3 in the intermediate panels, I think, to improve flex.

Was out today for about 3 hours and no hassles with the cold, and to put things in prespective, it snowed on me whilst I was launching! 22 knot baltic winds brought some late snow and freezing temps too. (ambient 3 deg C with -2 after the wind chill if the weatherman is to be believed)

I would say a 5mm would be way too warm for Cape town. Kiters (hopefully) dont spend much time IN the water, mostly ON so wind protection is possibly a more NB factor in a suit. IMHO a 4/3 combo with decent chest panel and sealed seams would be ideal, booties would be helpful as your feet are closer to the water (unless, like hadlow et al,  you spend half your session inverted).

I reckon a 4/3 with booties, and possibly a hoodie.

    Re: Wetsuit for Winter?

Good to see all this feedback and support. Im sure choosing between brands is a mission on its own

Keep it Simple!!! Quiksilver is the way to go! They last! they are flexible and warm! Their service is excellent!
    1) Buy it from a store where the price is good and the service(back-up service very Important) is excellent.
    2)  No wetsuit lasts 4eva, nor is it bullet proof ( I would hate for the guy to go out at nite in a wetsuit because of fear)...jokes aside.

    Get in the water now...

    Re: Wetsuit for Winter?

Firstly, thanks for all of the feedback, it gave me a good starting point. I ended up buying a Quicksilver 4/3 Cell, and I have used it for a week in Langebaan, so here's some feedback of my own. The suit is really comfortable, and is warm enough for me to spend the whole day in it on and off the water. During the week there have been some cool days, but so far the suit has been up to the task. My only gripe is that the legs fill up with water, and on some long upwind legs beating into chop I end up looking like I've got some wierd disease.Overall, though, I'm pretty impressed.

    Hey DvB

It's called 'Shankles" get the cuffs shortened and the water flows out.  Reef can do this for you.

    Cheers

    Re: Wetsuit for Winter?

rob is this the Reef Fusion from overseas? i tried one on today was told this isn't the typical reef its imported, extra glue la la la ...., its nice , and stretchy ( whats that stretch material called) but is it going t be as warm as my full rubber? i'm scared i buy one and freeze, my rubber suit is like a space suit i feel nothing apart from the holes leaking everywhere due to age, but its so ugly i really want a nice non rubber suit but is it anything agoing to be as warm ?????

Has anyone gone from rubber to non rubber? doesn't the cold water soak in first and make you cold? Then the wind penetrates the suit to your cold wet body and freeze you?

    Re: Wetsuit for Winter?

    Hey guys

I just got the new Quiksilver Cell 4/3 Robby Naish Kitesurfing specific wetsuit.

I believe it's the best of both worlds with a good mix of smooth skin (which is wind proof) and neoprene (which is more flexible).

It also has built in velcro straps on the ankles to prevent water build up from hitting the chop. It comes with short arms and extensions so that you can convert the suit to full length on the arms on the colder days.

I highly recommend this suit for any kitesurfers as it gives the best of both worlds - flexibility where you need it and protection against the wind where it matters, along with much needed velcro straps on the ankles.

It's the same sort of quality and construction you can expect on the Quiksilver Cell suits.
