Hi There

I am sure this has been covered elsewhere on this forum (can't find it), but what is the situation with kiting on Rietvlei?

I have been told that it not permitted, allthough there was someone on there today.

I'm sure its got something to do with it being a wild bird sanctuary. Pelicans, Flamingoes and the others will inevitably end up flying into some ones lines.

It is due to the fact that it is a bird sanctuary but I too saw a yellow kite there the other day...

So the birds can't deal with kites, but can handle windsurfers and remote control planes?

Something needs to be done. It would save a long drive to Langebaan and make the area a "one stop shop"

Rietvlei kiting should remain a no no.

The launch and landing area's are sketchy at best. The promise of flat water would attract beginners who don't yet have the skills to negotiate the launch.

The result would be kiters being dragged throught the club house, jetties etc. And the walks of shame would right through delicate wet lands.

Riet vlei is not a safe place to kite. Leave it be.

Apart from Rietvlei being a bird sanctuary and poleboarder's paradise, it's also a health hazard. Lots of *** and toxins being pumped in there - don't know if any of you remember the thousands of fish dying about a year ago from toxins in the water?
