    Re: kitesurfing in australia

depends on when you're going...if you are going now, I'd avoid Northern Queensland (Great Barrier Reef area, Brisbane etc) as its stinger time (deadly irikundju and box jellyfish) there now so kiting is pretty much off limits. Melbourne and Perth should be pretty good now.

If you are planning to go after April/May, then Northern Queensland will be good and Melbourne is probably a bit cold. Northern Queensland water is warm, wind is light but decent (take a 12 and 16) and there are plenty of flat water around the entire coastline. If you go very far north, chat to locals to make sure you're not going to be kiting salrwater croc territories as kiting in the wrong spots can be dangerous.

Cool [H] Re: kitesurfing in australia

    Hello Hotracer,

I’m fortunately married to a skanky Aussie and I’ve kited down under…(lets keep it tidy) Cairns / Yorkies Knob in
Queensland rocks but as Athol says beware of Man-O-War and other jellyfish during this time of the year. It’s a huge place so try this domain run by Rebecca Nicholson  http://www.traqua.com/ for Australian destinations.

    Safe kiting bro,

    Joe

PS look up Otto an IKO instructor if you’re near Byron Bay

    Re: kitesurfing in australia

you want to go to the gold coast.
beer babes and as many different types of kiting areas as you can think of. Tallebudgera creek in a northerly and the broadwater in southerly`s.

Can`t go wrong with the girls in any wind! But the best times are oct-feb for both.
    good luck.

    Re: kitesurfing in australia

If I was king of the world I would have a place in Perth and a place in Cairns. Perth (and surrounds) gets the most consistent and best wind in the summer, Cairns in the winter. The girls in both spots are pretty nice, though most of the ones in Cairns are tourists. Gold Coast has nice girls but the wind is less consistent, though the season is longer (a primarily summer season). Waves are better from about Fraser Island south along the east coast (nothing decent behind the Barrier Reef, and Perth isn't great for them either, though at least there are a few regional spots in WA with waves). As for beer, coming from South Africa, you're not going to like it. Probably about R14 (AUD3) for the cheapest glass of beer in an average pub, and I've paid over R30 in nicer places. With over 35000km of coastline on the mainland alone, there are all sorts of spots with all types of water. My two favourite places for kiting in Australia were:

West Coast - Safety Bay in Rockingham, about half an hour south of Perth. No waves there, but well located, a bit of flat water, a sandbar to jump over, and a friendly crowd. Consistent wind in the on season.

East Coast - Inskip point, just near Fraser Island. Almost unknown, but features 4 different types of water (open, flat, breaking on a bar, and breaking on the beach) close to each other. Wind there wasn't so consistent, and it is a more dangerous spot, but heaps of fun.
