Great stuff. I was also at Tietiesbaai the last weekend with the opening of the crayfish weekend! Yes, the water was damn dirty, the swell huge although we did brave the 0.0 viz, stuck some arms down some local shallow spots and manage to get some crayfish! I will be going there again for a few days mid Dec so hopefully I get some kiting down. Otherwise, I'll make a drive to Saldanha/Langebaan.

There are however two smaller beaches, just as you leave Paternoster to go to Tietiesbaai on your right and I think they might work on S/SW winds. I have seen some really nice swell there and some blokes windsurfing! Will check it out some time...

Its lekka up there, Diving, Fishing, many braais and some drinking whilst camping....

Needless to say the swell was big and the SE howling, so no diving - anyway it was far easier buying huge crayfish from the locals at very reasonable prices. Had quite a few pints at the Paternoster hotel - don't expect fast service, but who the hell is in a hurry anyway. The beach at Paternoster missed the swell and was as flat as a pancake, with a stiff SE - only problem was that it was straight offshore, so I didn't regret not bringing my kites. The Weskus has some weird attraction that I haven't worked out yet! Got to be some great kiting spots somewhere along this coast where the SE doesn't blow offshore.

With the kiting season already in full swing and the holiday approaching very fast (huraaa), it is going to be hectic with kites all over. It is actually an awesome site seeing 100 plus kites on the water in the same time, Blouberg Decembers...but not if you are a kiter!!

Has anybody kited at Shelley point or Paternoster in NW winds?? (SE will blow you out to sea!!!!)

Also, at Stomneusbaai, it looks like a SE can work nicely. Its quite a sweet beach and bay area

....and those who realy like to party and have a couple of beers and kopskieters, visit the paternoster hotel!!!!
