I had the weirdest and most painful experience yesterday! The wind started to come through around 4 and I decided to hit a quick session. The Skies were grey and the rain was in the air but not there yet. I put my kite up and I suddenly got a series of shocks on the seems of my wetsuit on both sides under my harness. The shocks were audible - to me anyway - and came in a series of jolts. I must have been zapped about 7 or 8 times before I managed to get the kite down. I decided to test it again and the same thing happened - I didn't get shocked at 45 degrees but when I was at about 11 it started again - all the way until I got the kite down to Sipho again.

Now I have had it in the past when I have kited and picked up the static in the air when I jumped and I would get one big Zap as I landed - that was when a storm was brewing again. Both times I decided not to continue the session, but I was wondering how many people had experienced this or what the story was.  I can understand the second situation but the one I had yesterday was weird (and painful)!!!

This happened to a friend of mine at big bay last winter, it was overcast but no lightning in sight.

there was no one there so he rigged on the grass and was walking over that wooden bridge to the

water when he got shocked everytime he came close to a srew in the wood, not just a jolt but a

current running through him. He said it was to light to cause pain. Weird....

I've been on Bigbay once last year, where we had a storm on the rise, decided to get out of water, and while packing gear away, a bolt of lightning hit the nearby crane on the construction happening at Bigbay...

 

It was scary.. saw this firebolt hit the crane... I really shat my self..

I've decided, lightning.. i get off the beach!!! haa haa..
