Best locations in April for learning?

    Hey everyone,

A couple of mates and myself are looking to go somewhere for a week in early April to learn how to kiteboard/kitesurf. Obviously, we need somewhere with good/reliable winds (as much as you can predict this) and a good school/intructors. It looks like the winds die off in La Ventana around that time, so that's probably out. I can't seem to get a good read on the winds in Cabarete for April. Does anyone have thoughts on that? The Playa del Carmen area seems like it might be a decent option. Does anyone have any opinions or recommendations? We're leaning towards Mexico or the Carribean for reasons of cost, and also the fact that both are good places to be stuck for week if the winds don't co-operate.

    Cheers

I understand that u are a beginner, so will need a flatwater spot with stable wind (meaning > 14 knots In the Caraibian/SA spot: Margarita.
During April it was NOT possible to kite there only:
    2006: 3 days
    2007: 1 day
    2008: 1 day
    2009: 0 days
    Temperature: 28 C
    Source: windguru archives + windfinder
For this month the most reliable wind spot on earth (except for Adicora). Minus point: not so good landing area + yelly fisch.
Other good windy spots: Cabo Verde (Africa), Tulum.

    Hi Tania

Have you thought about Turkey?  Winds are reliable from mid-April through to mid-October.  Gokova Bay offers flat shallow water perfect for learning and if the sun is shinning it is Always Windy!

Hello Tania, and how are the winds in your part of the world. I would strongly suggest that you visit Cyprus in the Mediteranean sea for you beggining. I started here last year in April and on average get to kite at least twice a week.

Got lesson from this dude, that is responsible for the following web site, and highly recommend him.

The good thing about Cyprus is that the wind is stable and if your day is soooooooooooo shitty with no luck in wind you will always find life away from the beach too.

Have a look at Egypt, wind starts coming in consistently in March so April is great. Abu Soma is an awesome spot, smooth winds and flat water

Have a look at Tarifa, in Spain.  The weather is usally good at that time of year, and there is practically always wind there as it gets squeezed between the two coasts of Spain and Africa.  Also a great town, with lots of life and atmospere.
We offer holidays unlimited instruction and accommodation, airport pick ups etc. for great rates, as we are a small husband and wife team.  check us out on www.highflyerstarifa.com for more info.

    Good luck choosing!!
